TELEPORT MANAGER (Vernon Valley, NJ)
US Electrodynamics, Inc. (USEI) is a privately owned communications company using a combination of
satellite and terrestrial infrastructures to deliver flexible solutions for the video, voice, data, and internet
service needs for all commercial and government customer applications.
We are seeking a dynamic leader to join the USEI management team as head of the Vernon Valley New Jersey teleport. The
successful candidate will have the experience and skills required to manage a world-class satellite communications facility, but
more importantly, will also have the opportunity to participate in the management of the larger USEI organization, which
includes its sister teleport in Brewster, WA; a robust fiber optic terrestrial network; and six international antenna sites located
in strategic positions around the world.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As part of the USEI management team you will report to the company’s General Manager regarding site
status and ongoing operations. You will also participate in strategic discussions as part of the management
team around the company’s direction, potential new service offerings and other ways to optimize revenues
while controlling costs. In addition, you will be responsible for:- Coordinating regularly with your peers at the USEI teleport in Brewster, WA to ensure that
operational consistency between the two facilities is maintained, and that staff at both sites operate as
part of a cohesive team. - Assist in the development of the annual CapEx and OpEx budgets required to run the facility.
- Participate in the review, procurement and testing of new systems designed to increase the
operational efficiency and the capacity of the USEI teleports.
- Coordinating regularly with your peers at the USEI teleport in Brewster, WA to ensure that
- You will manage a staff of currently 12 to 15 full-time employees, working in either the Operations or the
RF Engineering teams. As the senior manager on site, you will:- Provide leadership and mentorship to your staff and be responsible for their professional
development. - Ensure that your staff remains highly motivated by acting with honesty and integrity and holding
your staff to the same standards. - Ensure that your staff is following all USEI operational policies and procedures and is working in
a manner consistent with industry best practices and standards. - Be responsible for recruiting and maintaining staffing levels sufficient to support 24 x7 operations
as the volume of customer services increases.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to your staff and be responsible for their professional
- One of USEI’s founding pillars is providing market leading customer service. In this capacity, you will:
- Act as the face of USEI on the East Coast and represent management during all customer
engagements, site visits, event reporting and outage resolutions. - Ensure that your staff always embraces the mindset that our customers are our highest priority.
- Work with your staff to minimize the potential for service outages, and in the event an outage does
occur, lead the team in restoring services as quickly as possible.
- Act as the face of USEI on the East Coast and represent management during all customer
- Supporting the Business Development (BD) team in securing new business and standing up new
services is part of every USEI employee’s job description. As the site manager, you will:- Ensure that your staff provides timely and accurate information in response to requests from the
BD team to support RFI/RFP responses from new and existing customers. - Facilitate customer visits, providing the opportunity to tour the facility and infrastructure, while
highlighting USEI’s industry-leading, operational support models. - Participate in proposal reviews and design reviews to ensure USEI’s technical solutions are solid
and the timelines achievable. - Assume technical responsibility for all construction required to support new customer services.
- Ensure that your staff provides timely and accurate information in response to requests from the
TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of ten years working in a teleport or similar communications facility, with a
minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity (team leader, shift supervisor, department
manager, etc). - Demonstrated ability for developing and motivating staff, and creating and leading highly
productive teams - Ability to react and make decisions under stressful conditions (e.g., service outages or site
outages) - Experience in providing technical supervision and guidance in a 24×7 operational
environment - Strong attention to detail that is operationally and technically driven
- Technical and operational understanding of RF theory and earth station subsystems
- Demonstratable knowledge in the use of test equipment such as spectrum analyzers,
frequency counters, power meters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, video waveform meters,
multi-meters, and bit error rate test sets - Ability to interpret and analyze technical data to resolve issues in emergency and non-
emergency events - Aptitude for learning new technologies
- Excellent communications skills, including the ability to convey complex technical issues to
both technical and non-technical audiences - Excellent time management skills
- Natural customer and partner relationship-building skills
- Basic to advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Fluent in English, spoken and written
- Requires US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance
